Extinguish Adelaide Hills burns tonight

26/11/2013

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is reminding landholders to fully extinguish burn-offs by midnight tonight if they have not obtained the relevant permit, particularly in the Mount Lofty Ranges where a Total Fire Ban has been declared for tomorrow.

The warning comes after two burn-offs escaped this morning in Cherryville and Aldgate in the Adelaide Hills, highlighting the importance of supervising burns and ensuring they are totally extinguished.

CFS State Coordinator Yvette Dowling says with the warmer temperatures expected tomorrow, the CFS is relying on the community to do the right thing.

"We are asking the community to ensure that all burns have been fully extinguished to prevent the risk of embers escaping and igniting a fire," State Coordinator Dowling said.

"We are fortunate that today's grass fires from burn-offs in the Mount Lofty Ranges were quickly contained, and didn't escalate to more serious fires."

Total Fire Bans have been declared for tomorrow in 10 of the State's 15 Fire Ban Districts.

The CFS reminds people that they cannot burn without a permit if a Total Fire Ban has been declared for their Fire Ban District.

"People who intend on burning tomorrow where a Total Fire Ban has been declared must ensure they have sought a Schedule 10 Permit from their local council," State Coordinator Dowling said.

"They must also notify the fire service of their intent to burn and comply with permit conditions.

"We ask that the community remains vigilant and that they report any fires to triple zero immediately."
