Rockleigh fire continues to burn in the Murraylands

26/03/2013

The CFS is still trying to contain a grass fire in the Murraylands, which started approximately half way between Lobethal and Mannum and is now burning in an area north of Monarto.

The fire began just after midday and has since burnt about 1480 hectares.

The cause has yet to be determined.

At the height of this fire the CFS deployed three fixed-winged water-bombers and one aerial observer, in addition to 40 fire trucks and two bulk water carriers, supporting 250 firefighters on the ground.

The fire is still burning in grassland, near Pallamana in the Murraylands near Kubenk Road, Loxton Road, Rockleigh Road, Laws Road and Palmer Road.

Although it is not controlled or contained, there is not a strong rate of spread in any particular direction.

There have been no reports of any damage to property or livestock.

A "Specific Risk" Bushfire Advice Message remains current for this fire with local residents advised to activate their Bushfire Survival Plan.

For further updates, tune into your local radio station or visit the CFS website at www.cfs.sa.gov.au or contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1300 362 361.
