House in Barmera destroyed by fire

22/02/2013

SA Country Fire Service (CFS) and Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) firefighters were called to a house fire just after 11.30pm last night on Hardwick Street in Barmera.

CFS appliances from Monash, Barmera and Glossop brigades supported by an MFS truck from Berri arrived to find the house fully involved in fire.

25 CFS and MFS firefighters worked for an hour to contain the blaze, but the four bedroom single-story house was completely gutted by the fire.

While occupants of the house were not home at the time, they were nearby the property and returned to the dwelling after they saw smoke emanating from the vicinity of their home.

One occupant was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

While the cause is undetermined, it is believed the fire started in the roof of the house. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Damage to the property is estimated at $300,000.
