RM WILLIAMS WAY CLOSED DUE TO BUNDALEER FIRE SMOKE

17/01/2013

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises that a serious bushfire is burning at Bundaleer North, approximately 16 kilometres north east of Georgetown.

Thick smoke emanating from the fire is significantly reducing visibility on RM Williams Way (also referred to as Spalding Road), which is now closed between Spalding and Jamestown until further notice.

CFS Regional Commander, Bluey Devine, says that members of the public should avoid RM Williams Way, and use an alternative route where possible.

"We are urging motorists to steer clear of this area which is heavily clouded by smoke, making it extremely dangerous for travelling," Mr Devine said.

"Residents should remain vigilant and continue to monitor the situation on a battery powered radio, via CFS social media sites or via the CFS website."

People with respiratory problems are advised to stay inside and close all doors and windows until the smoke has passed.
