Angle Grinder Sparks Fire at Red Creek

14/12/2013

Just after 1230 this afternoon SA Country Fire Service (CFS) firefighters were called to a fire at Red Creek near Woodchester in the Adelaide Hills.

Around 50 firefighters on 8 appliances and two bulk water carriers worked hard to contained the fire burning in grassland near Burwood Road just after 2:00pm this afternoon.

Investigations by CFS and SA Police have determined the cause to be the use of an Angle Grinder. SA CFS State Coordinator Brenton Eden said "This is a timely reminder to be vigilant when using any machinery that may start a fire and ensure you have the appropriate firefighting tools and extinguishing agent on hand"

The fire which burnt more than 25 hectares of grassland also destroyed a tractor valued at $100,000.

CFS Firefighters will remain on scene over the next few hours blacking out the area and patrolling to ensure the area is safe
