CFS deployment to Victorian bushfire

7/01/2013

The CFS has deployed two strike teams in Victoria where a bushfire has been burning since Friday and its smoke has been drifting into various parts of South Australia.

About 50 CFS firefighters and forward command crew left early this morning for the bushfire located about 18 kilometres south-east of Nelson in Victoria's south west region.

CFS Regional Duty Officer Scott Murray said the CFS team will return tonight with similar numbers (around 40 people per day) to be deployed over the next two days.

"As part of the deployment to the Nelson fire in Victoria we've committed eight fire trucks and two QRVs (Quick Response Vehicles)," Mr Murray said.

Smoke from this fire is continuing to drift into various parts of South Australia including Port Lincoln on Eyre Peninsula and Mount Gambier in the South East.

Residents and travellers should be aware that the smoke could be emanating from the Nelson bushfire in Victoria but are also advised to remain vigilant at all times during the Fire Danger Season.

"If anyone is still uncertain about the smoke or they notice any flames, they should ring Triple Zero immediately," Mr Murray said.
