CFS declares Fire Danger Season dates for five districts

28/10/2016

The 2016/17 Fire Danger Season will start in five Fire Ban Districts at the beginning of November.

SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has declared the season will start in the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula, North East Pastoral, North West Paroral and West Coast Fire Ban Districts from midnight on Tuesday, November 1.

Director of Preparedness Operations, Leigh Miller, said the Fire Danger Season starts as normal in these districts.

"The announcement of the Fire Danger Season for these districts sends a clear message to South Australians to be aware of their responsibilities in relation to fire prevention, and to be aware bushfires happen every year," Mr Miller said.

Mr Miller said the community should make themselves aware of what they can and can't do during the Fire Danger Season and on Total Fire Ban days.

"If you can, postpone activities which might pose a fire risk. Where that is not possible, we urge you to contact your local Council for advice or visit the CFS website".

Mr Miller said a fire permit is required for burning activities during the Fire Danger Season or on days where a Total Fire Ban is declared.

"Permits may be issued under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 by an authorised officer of a local council. "

Dates for the remaining 10 fire ban districts are yet to be announced.
