CFS concerned for Sunday fire risk

02/12/2016

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is urging the community to be aware of the potential fire risk on Sunday the 4th of December.
Latest forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology suggest there may be multiple total fire bans in place stretching across the State.
State Coordinator Leigh Miller says those harvesting will need to consult the Harvesting Code of Practice prior to Sunday.
"Harvesting is in full swing but it may have increased risk across the State on Sunday, so it is vital harvesting is put on hold if the conditions deteriorate.
"If a total fire ban is declared, other restrictions will be in place regarding the use of machinery and the operation of fires in the open including barbeques."
Mr Miller said having a Bushfire Survival Plan is vital for everyone, even those who intend to travel outside out of the Adelaide Metropolitan area.
"Now is the time of year when we should be discussing a plan and having it in place. Even if you are traveling you should know what steps you will take if you get caught out, or if the fire risk is heightened enough to post pone a trip."
"The CFS website now has a tool available where you can easily download and create a plan for yourself and members of your family."
Total fire bans are issued in the afternoon on the day before, and the community is encouraged to check the CFS website late Saturday afternoon on what bans may be in place for Sunday.
