Burns planned to reduce threat from the Kyeema fire

18/11/2015

SA Country Fire Service (CFS), with the help of Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR), will conduct prescribed burns in the Kyeema area tonight to reduce the threat of a breakout from fire which has been burned approximately 86 hectares.

Locations of the prescribed burns will be on Burma Road, Enterprise Road and the north end of the fire. The intent is to burn out available fuels.

The community is warned that there may be increased smoke in the area and residents should close all doors and windows.

More than 170 firefighters have been working hard to contain the fire in scrub and grassland since it began yesterday afternoon. They will continue onsite overnight with strike teams arriving to relieve crews.

The fire is currently burning west of Blackfellows Creek Road, North of Enterprise Road, East of Proctor Road and South of Woodgate Hill Road.

The fire has burned approximately 86 hectares since it began just before 1pm yesterday.

There are road closures in place on Burma Road from Enterprise Road to Woodgate Hill Road and Enterprise Road is closed from Burma Road to Blackfellows Creek Road and Nangkita Road. Bahloo Glen Road and Nangkita Road are closed, except for local traffic.

If the public see any unattended fire overnight they should report it by calling 000 (zero-zero-zero).
