Travel to Kangaroo Island

11/01/2020

The situation on Kangaroo Island has stabilised and emergency services are now working on extinguishing the fire ahead of increasing temperatures expected early next week.

CFS Chief Officer Mark Jones said there are currently no restrictions regarding travel to and from Kangaroo Island.

"There may have been confusion about travelling to the island.

"Under my powers as Chief Officer, I temporarily enacted restrictions on the island to ensure the priority of emergency services.

"The restrictions were removed on Friday and people are able to travel to and from the island."

Localised flare ups will continue to occur in dense vegetation and fire crews are responding to these. Flare ups and warnings will continue to disrupt activities on the island for a number of weeks and anyone planning to travel to the area needs to keep the risks in mind.

The CFS thanks the community for their patience and understanding as emergency service personnel travelled as priority to attend the fireground.
