South Australian specialist firefighters fly to USA to help fight Californian fires

As part the proposed 146 Australia/New Zealand contingent, three South Australian specialist firefighters from the South Australian Country Fire Service and Department for Environment and Water will leave Adelaide on Thursday to help battle fires in the north west of the United States of America.

Two SA Country Fire Service staff have also been sent to Emergency Management Victoria to help coordinate the international deployment.

The request for aid came on Sunday from the USA, as 89 large fires burned through more than 376,000 hectares.

The contingent will join more than 12,000 USA firefighters and 17 water bomber crews to attempt to contain the fires.

The South Australian specialists will be deployed for 42 days.

Media will have an opportunity to speak with South Australian specialist firefighters prior to their departure at the Adelaide Airport on Thursday (Time to be advised).
