SA Firefighters responding to USA request for help

30/07/2018

The South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS), along with the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS), State Emergency Service (SES) and Department for Environment and Water (DEW), are currently considering their capacity to help supply specialists to support firefighters in the USA.

Over the weekend the National Multi-Agency Coordination (MAC) Group in the USA requested Australia and New Zealand's help with wildfires in the USA.

Currently 89 large fires have burned more than 376,000 hectares in 14 states in north western USA.

MAC has requested the assistance of 188 specialist firefighters from Australia and New Zealand.

Firefighters would be required for a 20 - 42 day deployment in the California area.

Any SA candidates will be placed in a national pool, with the most suitable candidates being announced late tomorrow afternoon, and deployed to the USA on Friday.
