Possible Total Fire Bans tomorrow
04/10/2019
The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) may issue Total Fire Bans tomorrow.
The Flinders, West Coast and North West Pastoral Fire Ban Districts could have a Total Fire Ban issued. The Fire Danger Rating has forecast as Severe for these areas.
State Duty Commander, Sam Quigley said it's not uncommon for CFS to issue Total Fire Bans outside of the Fire Danger Season.
"Although it is early in the year to see these hot and dry conditions, it is not the first time CFS has issued Total Fire Bans at this time of the year," Mr Quigley said.
"Tomorrow's forecast means if a fire starts, it will be difficult for CFS crews to contain."
For those travelling during the long weekend, make sure you know how to stay informed if a fire does start - check the CFS website, social media updates and ABC local radio.
"Although these Total Fire Bans are only in the west and north of the State, it is a timely reminder to everyone that summer is fast approaching and now is the time to prepare your properties," he said.
"It's also a good opportunity to speak to your family about your Bushfire Survival Plan and what you will do if a fire starts near you. There is a 5 minute bushfire plan template on the CFS website which is an easy way to record what you will do during a bushfire.
For anyone who has been burning off lately, CFS asks that they check their burnoff before tomorrow to ensure that it has been completely extinguished.
"Our professionally trained CFS volunteers have been busy throughout winter, attending road crashes, hazardous materials incidents and a large number of house fires.
"Some have already attended grass fires, and they are prepared for the upcoming Fire Danger Season."
Fire Danger Season dates are yet to be announced for areas around the State. Local Bushfire Management Committees are meeting this month to provide a recommendation to the CFS Chief Officer about start dates and they will be widely publicised once confirmed.
