Memorial for fallen firefighters
26 April 2016
The South Australia Volunteer Fire Fighters Museum (SAVFFM) will unveil a memorial to firefighters on St Florian's Day (May 4) at 11.30am.
All are invited to attend the service at the newly built memorial wall and garden dedicated to the bravery of individual firefighters being built at Kingston Ave in Naracoorte.
SAVFFM Committee Chairman Rex Hall said it's important to honour those firefighters who lost their lives defending their community.
"The Country Fire Service and other volunteer fire and emergency services are made up of committed people who put their lives in danger to help others, so it's important to remember those who are no longer with us," Mr Hall said.
"We're pleased that fellow firefighters, families and members of the public alike will have a place to reflect on those who are no longer with us."
Emergency Services Minister Peter Malinauskas will attend the memorial with CFS staff, volunteers and the community. Mr Malinauskas will also officially open the memorial.
The museum itself recently received a $20,000 grant from the State Government's Fund My Idea program. This will help complete stage one of the three part project, which will eventually include a carpark, rest area and administration centre.
Mr Hall thanked those who voted for the memorial and the individuals and businesses who have already contributed to the project.
To RSVP the Memorial on May 4 please email Rex Hall at gadang@rbm.com.au or call on 0417 081 560.
