Tooperang Bushfire
The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is responding to a bushfire at Tooperang, 5 kilometres east of Mount Compass in the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula.
The fire has burnt in excess of 650 hectares in scrub, grass and plantation.
More than 120 CFS volunteer firefighters and 30 trucks are working on the fireground to secure and black out hotspots after extensive efforts from overnight crews were successful in holding control lines.
Additional support is being provided by the Department for Environment and Water, St John Ambulance, Salvation Army, private contractors, farm fire units, Forestry SA, SA Ambulance Service, SA Metropolitan Fire Service, State Emergency Service and the South Australia Police.
Crews worked tirelessly overnight to maintain and strengthen control lines, with several flare ups being quickly extinguished. The focus today will continue to be on mopping up and patrol the fire edge, including extinguishing numerous hay bales which continue to produce smoke.
Numerous properties have been saved during firefighting efforts, a testament to the outstanding work of our Volunteers, farm fire units and supporting partner agencies.
Nangkita Road and Cleland Gully Road remain closed, however this may change at short notice. Continue to monitor road closures at: traffic.sa.gov.au
Residents may see some smoke during the day, do not enter the area as conditions may change quickly and remain dangerous. Crews will continue to remain on the fireground throughout the day and into the night.
