Stockport Fire

The CFS has responded to a grass fire near Twin Rivers Road in Stockport, approximately 30 km north of Gawler in the Mid North of South Australia.

At the height of the fire approximately 40 CFS volunteers, on 10 fire trucks, assisted by multiple Farm Fire Units worked together to swiftly contain the fire. Crews were also assisted by 5 aircraft helping to restrict the fire to 7 hectares, saving a property in the process.

The fire has impacted a large haystack containing approximately 210 large haybales which will likely continue to burn for the next 24-48 hours.

CFS volunteers will remain on scene throughout the evening pulling apart the haystack to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. With the current conditions this may cause additional smoke in the area.

This fire is causing smoke to drift over the Stockport township and the local area. Members of the community are urged to take care, particularly if driving in the area.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and SA Police and CFS Fire Investigators have been sent to the scene.

Roads are currently open in the area; however, to ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.
