Riverlea Park Fire
The CFS is responding to a bushfire in the Riverlea Park area, near Virginia, north of Adelaide in the Adelaide Plains, South Australia.
Approximately 65 CFS firefighters on 14 trucks are currently working on the fireground, supported by 6 aircraft, including firebombers and observational aircraft. Firefighters are also being supported by SA Police.
The fire is burning on the Western side of Port Wakefield Highway in scrub, grass and reeds along the edge of the Gawler River. The Riverlea Park Fire has burnt approximately 1.5 hectare in wet vegetation and some large trees causing large amounts of smoke across the area. Quick work from firefighters and aircraft stopped the fire from jumping the highway and has halted the spread.
CFS firefighters will remain on scene throughout the afternoon and into the evening continuing to mop up the fire and ensure the area is safe with the expected elevated fire weather conditions forecast for the weekend.
Roads have been closed due to this incident, including Port Wakefield Highway in both directions. Continue to monitor road closures at: traffic.sa.gov.au.
Smoke is impacting roads in the area, and visibility may be reduced. To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.
