MOUNT WEDGE 28/12/2022

ISSUED FOR MOUNT WEDGE

CFS Volunteers, supported by fire crews from the Department of Environment and Water (DEW), Farm Fire Units and Heavy machinery, are continuing to work on the Mount Wedge fireground. Crews are continuing to build containment lines and dealing with flare ups as they occur. Aircraft are on standby to assist throughout the day.

Whilst the high temperatures experienced yesterday have eased, winds remain elevated in the Mount Wedge area. The elevated winds are causing isolated flare ups across the fireground which crews are attending to as they occur, where these are close to the existing fire edge.

Smoke is still present in the Mount Wedge area and the smoke may build as flare ups occur. The public is asked to stay clear of the fireground around Mount Wedge due to the current conditions and firefighting operations.

Crews will be working in the coming days to minimise the impact to local communities, and it is expected that firefighters will remain on scene over the next few days to contain the fire and eventually make the area safe.
