ISSUED FOR MOUNT WEDGE
Weather over the fireground has improved conditions for firefighters with cooler temperatures, higher humidity and some rainfall overnight assisting crews. Despite lower temperatures forecast today winds are expected to remain elevated across the fireground. Ground crews will be working on the fireground today to slow the fire's spread and protect properties.
CFS Volunteers are today being supported by fire crews from the Department of Environment and Water (DEW) and Farm Fire Units.
An aerial observation flight is planned for this morning with aircraft on standby to assist throughout the day.
Smoke is continuing to be pushed by winds towards the townships of Minnipa, Kyancutta and Wudinna and a smoke advice message is current for the local area. The public is asked to stay clear of the fireground around Mount Wedge due to the current conditions and firefighting operations.
Crews will be working in the coming days to minimise the impact to local communities, and it is expected that firefighters will remain on scene over the next few days to contain the fire and eventually make the area safe.
