Incident Update

Highbury Bushfire

Issued for Gorge Road, HIGHBURY near Corkscrew road in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.

65 volunteer firefighters from the Country Fire Service, supported by MFS and Department of Environment crews have contained the bushfire on Gorge road, HIGHBURY. The quick response from fire crews limited the fire to approximately 2.5 hectares in size.

CFS firebombing and observation aircraft also played a critical role in helping suppress the fire's forward rate of spread in difficult terrain.

Firefighters will continue to patrol the area and mop up to ensure the fire poses no further threat to the community. Fire trucks and emergency services vehicles will be active in the area for some time.

Gorge Road between Corkscrew Road and Main Ridge Track, Athelstone remains closed due to this incident. It is unknown when the road will reopen.

This fire may be causing smoke in the area, and members of the community are urged to take care, particularly if driving.
