Incident Update for Maaoupe fire

The CFS is continuing to monitor a bushfire approximately 22 kilometres west of Penola in the Lower South East of South Australia.

Heavy plant machinery has been used to create mineral earth breaks around the fire, containing the fire to 14 hectares.

The fire was started by lightning and has burnt through blue gum slash.

CFS volunteers and Forest Industry Brigades on 9 trucks, supported by 3 bulk water carriers, will continue to actively patrol the fire ground until it has been declared safe.

Due to the predicted weather conditions today, smoke may continue to be visible for most of the day.

South Australia's Lower South East experienced a large number of dry lightning strikes overnight. The CFS urges members of the public to contact Triple Zero (000) if they see any unattended fire.
