Deep Creek Bushfire Update

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is responding to a bushfire in Deep Creek Conservation Park, 8 kilometres east of Cape Jervis in the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia.

The fire was reported at around 4:40pm on Sunday afternoon and is burning in grass and scrub in steep and inaccessible terrain, adjacent to Blowhole Beach Road, west of the Goondooloo Ridge Track. The fire has separated into two fires, one each side of Blowhole Beach Road.

A total of 175 firefighters on 35 trucks and several firefighting aircraft have worked into the evening and overnight in challenging condition. Replacement crews from the Country Fire Service, Department for Environment and Water and Forestry SA will be on the fireground today. Aerial firefighting will also continue throughout Monday.

While numerous assets have been threatened, there have been no reports of loss or damage. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this point in time and fire investigators will be sent to the scene when it is safe to do so.

A warning message remains current, and it is expected that the fire will remain uncontained for an extended period of time. Stay informed through the CFS website (cfs.sa.gov.au) or the bushfire Hotline on 1800 362 361.

Blowhole Beach Road is closed to all traffic, along with Tent Rock Road south of the Three Bridges Road intersection. Emergency services will be working on and around roads in the area, including Yulti Wirra Road and motorists are advised to stay away. If you need to travel on roads in the area, please take care and drive to the local conditions. Deep Creek National Park is partly closed, including the Cobbler Creek Campground and picnic areas, however visitors should remain alert and informed.

A CFS staging area has been established at the Yankalilla Showgrounds and Yankalilla Oval will be used for aviation operations, the public is asked to stay away from these areas.
