Coulta Fire

The CFS has been actively working to extinguish a grass fire on the Flinders Highway, approximately 16 km north of Coffin Bay on the Lower Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.

CFS volunteers, supported by SA Police and firefighting aircraft conducting water bombing and aerial observation, have brought the fire to a halt. Crews remain on scene working to extinguish hotspots and strengthen containment lines with machinery ensure the area is safe. Firefighters successfully protected assets at Camp Nyroca.

The Flinders Highway is currently closed due to the potential of trees falling in the area. CFS has engaged private contractors to assist with clearing these hazards. The road remains closed to all traffic, and a tiered closure system is in place for community safety. Access to some areas may not be possible until they are assessed and declared safe. Please follow all directions from emergency services and adhere to road closure signage.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
