Blanchetown Fire

The CFS continues to respond to a scrub fire approximately 11km south of Blanchetown in the Riverland.

CFS volunteer firefighters and Department for Environment and Water (DEW) personnel have contained the fire and are working to extinguish hotspots. Their efforts successfully halted the fire's spread, preventing it from impacting surrounding scrub and neighbouring properties. Firefighters have also been supported by aircraft, which have been vital in extinguishing elevated fuel throughout the fireground.

Crews will remain on scene throughout the coming days until the area is deemed safe. With increased tourism along the river corridor, river users are urged to stay vigilant if in the area.

The fire has burnt approximately 4 hectares of native vegetation, including large river red gums. It is expected that these trees will continue to smoulder for some time. The area surrounding the fireground has also been identified as a habitat for the nationally vulnerable Regent Parrot, highlighting the importance of the work undertaken by CFS and DEW crews to limit the spread of this fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and will be investigated.

This fire does not currently pose a risk to the community, however smoke may be visible around the area. To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.
