Black Springs Vehicle Fire

Issued for BLACK SPRINGS in the Gilbert Valley, 5km north-west of Waterloo.

The CFS has been actively monitoring a vehicle fire at a private property near Black Springs, approximately 5.5 km north-west of Waterloo in the Gilbert Valley, South Australia.

A warning message has been issued for the Black Springs vehicle fire. Refer to the CFS website cfs.sa.gov.au for the most up to date warning information.

The incident began this afternoon, shortly after 12:00 pm, when a truck transporting hay bales ignited in a paddock. The driver moved the truck into an area away from flammable vegetation and alerted emergency services.

CFS crews attended and have decided to allow the fuel to burn out in order to prevent the spread of the fire and to further prevent prolonged exposure from smoke to the community. This strategy will extinguish the fire quicker than using water to extinguish the fire.

The property owner, along with CFS firefighters, will continue to patrol and monitor the area to reduce further outbreaks.

Smoke is impacting roads in the area, and visibility may be reduced. To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.

Until the fuel burns out, smoke will be visible for the next few hours.
