Fire Danger Season dates finalised for South Australia

10/11/2016

SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has determined start dates for the Fire Danger Season in all districts across South Australia.

Despite cool and wet months throughout winter and spring, the season will begin as normal.

The Upper South East Fire Ban District will be the next district to commence the Fire Danger Season from Tuesday, November 15 followed by the Lower South East from Tuesday, November 22.

Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges and Kangaroo Island Fire Ban Districts will start from Thursday, December 1.

CFS Director of Preparedness Operations, Leigh Miller said there is still a great opportunity for many to continue preparation around their home.

"Certainly this should be the busy time of year for those living within a bushfire prone area, everyone should also be reviewing or creating their bushfire survival plan," he said.

"The community should be aware greater restrictions will apply during the Fire Danger Season, a permit will be required for burning activities during this period, and on days where a Total Fire Ban is declared."

The dates are as follows:

Adelaide Metropolitan - 1 December 2016 to 30 April 2017
Eastern Eyre Peninsula - 1 November 2016 to 15 April 2017
Flinders - 4 November 2016 to 15 April 2017
