SMOKE DRIFT FROM VICTORIAN CONTROLLED BURN
30/03/2014
The CFS is advising South Australian residents and visitors in the state's South East of the presence of smoke in the region from a controlled burn in Victoria.
The burn is currently taking place in the Rennick State Forest, south of the Princes Highway and about eight kilometres east of the South Australian border.
The Victorian Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) has targeted an area of 5,135 hectares as part of its fuel reduction program.
The controlled burn is expected to take several days to complete in favourable conditions.
CFS Regional Duty Officer at Naracoorte, Scott Murray said that smoke from this burn could potentially spread across a wide area of South Australia particularly in the south-east.
Residents and travellers in the region should be aware that the smoke could be emanating from this controlled burn from over the border in Victoria but are also advised to remain vigilant at all times during the Fire Danger Season.
"While this smoke is from a burn that poses no threat or danger the CFS is advising people in the affected areas with any respiratory or cardiac conditions to close all doors and windows and remain indoors," Mr Murray said.
"If anyone is still uncertain about the smoke or they notice any flames, they should ring Triple Zero immediately."
