FIRE IN SA'S SOUTH-EAST BREAKS CONTROL LINES

23/12/2012

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises that the bushfire burning approximately 20 kilometres west south west of Padthaway has broken through control lines on the western and north eastern flanks of the fire.

The fire is travelling in a north-easterly direction towards Marcollot and also in a westerly direction towards Bin Bin Road.

The bushfire has so far burnt through 5520 hectares of scrub and grass land, with no reported losses.

CFS State Coordinator, Brenton Eden, says additional resources have been deployed to the region to assist with fire fighting efforts.

"We have sent three strike teams over to provide adequate resourcing for the over night shift," Mr Eden said.

"Fire fighters will remain on the ground throughout the night to continue fire fighting operations.

"The weather is forecasted to cool down over-night, with a south-westerly wind change coming through much later than initially anticipated, which is of concern to us."

The fire which is burning freely through scrub land is generating thick plumes of smoke and residents are advised to keep their doors and windows shut.
