BUNDALEER FIRE SMOKE VISIBLE ACROSS CLARE VALLEY REGION

17/01/2013

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises that a serious bushfire is burning at Bundaleer North, approximately 16 kilometres north east of Georgetown.

The public are advised that smoke from this bushfire is visible in the Clare Valley and Gilbert regions, including the areas of Mallala, Windsor, Port Wakefield and Blyth.

CFS State Coordinator, Mark Thomason, says that members of the public should close doors and windows until the smoke passes.

"Those travelling in the area should exercise caution as smoke may reduce visibility," he said.

"We are urging people to follow their Bushfire Survival Plan and continue to listen for updates on the situation on a battery powered radio, via CFS social media sites or via the CFS website.

"If residents have concerns about their area, they are urged to contact the Bushfire Hotline on 1300 362 361 and if flames are visible, contact triple zero immediately."

People with respiratory problems are advised to stay inside and close all doors and windows until the smoke has passed.

For further information refer to the CFS website www.cfs.sa.gov.au or contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1300 362 361.
