FDS ends in four more districts

15/04/2013

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises that the Fire Danger Season ends today in the Flinders, Murraylands, Riverland and Upper South East Fire Ban Districts.

While these four districts are no longer subject to fire restrictions, the Fire Danger Season still remains in another nine Fire Ban Districts across South Australia.

CFS State Coordinator Mark Thomason says while the Fire Danger Season has ended in some parts of the State, people still need to behave responsibly if lighting fires.

"There are many people who will be camping in the Flinders Ranges and using an open camp fire during their stay," the CFS State Coordinator said.

"It is important that anyone lighting a camp fire maintains a four metre clearance above and around the fire to prevent it from igniting surrounding areas.

"Having an adequate extinguishing agent available is critical to put out any embers that may escape."

The State Coordinator also urges those who are planning on using incinerators to burn rubbish to first check with their local Council.

"Some Councils prohibit the use of incinerators and open fires for waste disposal on domestic properties, so it is recommended that residents check to see if this is an acceptable practice in their area" State Coordinator Thomason said.

"If the use of incinerators to burn rubbish is permitted, it is essential that incinerators are checked to ensure they are properly constructed, and that an extinguishing agent is available as a precaution."
