Multiple lighting strikes cause fires across SA

SA Country Fire Service (CFS) crews have been kept busy across the state responding to a series of scrub and grass fires that have ignited due to lighting strikes.

CFS State Coordinator Mark Thomason says crews have responded to over 30 scrub and grass fires across South Australia.

"We have had several fires start in the northern parts of the state, with a fire in Wilmington causing concern and coming close to properties," Mr Thomason said.

"Brigades located in the Adelaide Hills have also responded to a series of grass fires, with a fire in Kanmantoo burning through 50 hectares which took around 60 firefighters to contain.

"We have also had several ignitions in the states mid-north, including one in Mount Torrens."

While most grass fires have been contained, there are still fires burning including one in Barmera within the Riverland, and in Moonaree on the Eyre Peninsula which has been burning for several days.

People are advised to monitor local conditions and to report any fires immediately to triple zero.
