Smoke visible over Coober Pedy

2/12/2013

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises that smoke is visible over Coober Pedy, Tarcoola and Glendambo in the state's mid-north due to a series of scrub and grass fires currently burning in the upper Eyre Peninsula.

CFS Regional Prevention Officer Nik Ludborzs says the smoke is drifting from fires burning around 260 kilometres south of Coober Pedy.

"There are several going fires in the upper Eyre Peninsula which are causing a significant amount of smoke to be visible, particularly over the Coober Pedy township," Mr Ludborzs said.

"We have had members of the community express concern over this and we want to assure them that this is smoke drifting from fires that are currently being attended to by the CFS in the Eyre Peninsula."

The CFS advises that people suffering from respiratory problems should stay indoors while the smoke is present, and keep their windows and doors closed.
