CFS updates web, FireApp and social media

The Country Fire Service (CFS) has updated its website and smartphone FireApp as part of Bushfire Action Week in preparation for the next Fire Danger Season.

CFS Prevention Services Manager Leigh Miller said both the CFS website and social media sites - Facebook and Twitter - have seen a steady growth in their use since its introduction just over a year ago.

"These have become some of our most valuable resources by offering a cost-effective means of providing South Australians with current information about incidents and advice on fire prevention and safety," he said.

The CFS Facebook pages currently have around 12,000 Likes while Twitter has just over 2,000 followers.

The CFS website has been updated with a new responsive design and several new features and tools to improve access to incident information and Fire Danger Ratings.

The new design offers better access to data for desktop computers, tablets and smart phones.

"The website allows users to create personalised lists of their favourite CFS content and filter material based on their CFS Region" Mr Miller said.

The new release of the CFS smartphone FireApp, will feature push notifications, giving users the ability to designate an area and then be notified of incidents within that boundary.

"The updated CFS FireApp will also enable its users to upload photos of fires or other CFS-related incidents, share incident information to their social networks on Facebook and Twitter, and follow specific incidents and corresponding updates," Mr Miller said.

"There will also be a specific version of the CFS FireApp for iPads."

Those who have downloaded the CFS FireApp will be automatically prompted for an update.
