TWO PEOPLE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER BOAT FIRE ON MURRAY

27/10/2012

CFS crews were called to a speed boat fire on the River Murray near Murray Bridge this morning that resulted in two people being taken to hospital.

The incident happened just after 10.30am when the leisure-craft used for water skiing, caught fire opposite the Avocadel Caravan Park.

The vessel drifted to the other side of the river which made it difficult for both a CFS and an MFS crew from Murray Bridge to access.

The paddle steamer Murray River Princess came to their aid, with crew from that vessel managing to get close enough to extinguish the fire.

Two people were taken to the Murray Bridge Hospital but their condition, or the cause of the fire in not known.

SAPOL is investigating the incident.
