LIGHTNING-STRIKE FIRES STILL BURN IN SA REMOTE AREAS

The Country Fire Service (CFS) is continuing to monitor several grass fires in South Australia's Far North and southern Flinders Ranges that continue to burn since being ignited by lightning strikes last Sunday.

This includes 11 fires in the APY Lands that has so far burnt about 425,000 hectares with none of them posing any threat to communities and expected to continue to burn until at least Thursday.

Another grass fire is burning at the Cooper Basin near Moomba and is being monitored by SANTOS staff.

The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR), is also monitoring a grass fire in inaccessible terrain at Dutchman's Stern Conservation Park which is not threatening any properties.

The CFS is maintaining its vigil on non-threatening grass fires at Elder Range near Hawker and at Holowilena South Station that has burnt a combined total of at least 400 hectares.
