COOMUNGA FIRE ON EYRE PENINSULA UPDATE

CFS and MFS fire crews have been battling a bushfire since 10.50am at Mungerowie Scrub, about seven kilometres west of Port Lincoln on Eyre Peninsula.

An Emergency Warning message remains current for this fire which has so far burnt more than 500 hectares.

There are no reports of serious injuries or property damage at this stage.

The fire is currently travelling towards Pine Freezers Road, the Flinders Highway, Wine Shanty Road, Chapman Road and Little Swamp Road near Little Swamp in the vicinity of the Port Lincoln Prison.

The CFS has advised anyone in the path of the fire to follow their Bushfire Survival Plan to take shelter from the radiant heat when the fire arrives.

About 120 firefighters are battling the blaze which represents about 10% of all CFS crews in the region.

There are also 30 fire appliances committed representing 40% of all CFS fire trucks in the region.

Additional fire fighting support is currently being flown-in to the area from various parts of the State.

Five fixed-winged water bombing aircraft have also been assisting CFS volunteers on the ground.
