CFS declares Fire Danger Season dates for six districts
09/10/2025
SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has confirmed start dates for the 2025/26 Fire Danger Season (FDS) across several of South Australia's 15 Fire Ban Districts, urging communities to prepare their families and properties for the season.
FDS dates for six districts have been declared, with the season starting on 15 October in the Eastern Eyre and West Coast Districts.
Riverland, Murraylands, and Upper South East Districts will follow on 1 November with Lower Eyre Peninsula District's season to begin on 15 November.
These districts will start on the same dates as last year, reflecting ongoing concern about rainfall deficiencies and the resultant below-average soil moisture levels.
CFS Strategy and Compliance Officer Phil McDonough AFSM said the FDS opening dates serve as a reminder to all South Australians to ensure their homes, businesses, and properties are bushfire ready.
"As we enter the Fire Danger Season, I urge all South Australians to take the threat of bushfire seriously. Hot, dry, and windy conditions can turn a small spark into a fast-moving fire within minutes," Mr McDonough said.
"Now is the time to prepare. Clean up around your home, have a Bushfire Survival Plan, and know which Fire Ban District you live in so you can stay up to date with local conditions and restrictions. Don't wait for a warning to act."
"By staying informed and working together, we can reduce risk and protect our families, communities, and our volunteer firefighters who are always ready to support their communities."
A permit is required for most burning activities during the Fire Danger Season or on days where a Total Fire Ban is declared. Permits may be issued under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 by an authorised officer of a local council.
Dates for the remaining districts will be announced in coming weeks after further local consultation occurs.
