CFS declares Fire Danger Season dates for further 6 districts

23/10/2025

South Australians are being urged to prepare their homes and properties as the SA Country Fire Service (CFS) declares Fire Danger Season (FDS) dates for much of the state.
CFS has confirmed start dates for a further 6 districts for the 2025/26 season, with the final 3 districts to be announced in the coming weeks.
The FDS will start on November 1 in the Flinders, Lower South East, Mid North, North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral, and Yorke Peninsula districts.
CFS Director Community Risk and Resilience Alison May said it was important for all South Australians to prepare their homes, businesses, and properties now for the season ahead.
"As the Fire Danger Season begins in some districts, I urge all South Australians to take the threat of bushfires seriously and ensure they are bushfire ready," Ms May said.
"This is the time to be looking around your property and doing things like clearing gutters, mowing lawns and removing fallen branches and debris, and moving other flammable materials away from your home.
"If you haven't already, prepare a bushfire survival plan - whether that be a 5-minute bushfire plan done on the CFS website, or something more in depth. People need to know what they will do when a bad fire day approaches - including where they will go, when they will leave, and what they will take."
The Fire Season dates follow consultation with relevant Bushfire Management Committees and a final declaration from CFS Chief Officer, Brett Loughlin AFSM.
A permit is required for most burning activities during the Fire Danger Season or on days where a Total Fire Ban is declared. Permits may be issued under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 by an authorised officer of a local council.
