New fleet upgrades CFS urban response capability

The first phase rollout of 15 new SA Country Fire Service (CFS) trucks is set to begin in the coming months, boosting brigades' response to urban incidents.
The project, estimated at $10 million, is a significant investment to increase urban and hazardous material (HazMat) response capability for CFS brigades.
The rollout includes 9 HazMat Urban Rural Pumpers (URPs) and 6 multipurpose pumpers each with a 2,000 L water tank, enhanced crew protection systems, and fit-for-purpose stowage capabilities for HazMat, road crash rescue, and urban firefighting.
CFS Chief Officer Brett Loughlin AFSM said the rollout is part of the CFS' continued commitment to providing volunteers with the tools they need to best serve their communities.
"This project provides a significant enhancement to the capability of our brigades as they attend an increasing number of urban incidents," Mr Loughlin said.
"With increased pump capacity, and stowage, as well as ergonomic access to equipment, these trucks increase not only HazMat capability but also rescue and urban firefighting capability across the board.
"These are just the first of dozens of new, purpose-built trucks our volunteers will begin to see rolled out across the state in the next 18 months."
In 2025-26, CFS volunteer firefighters were responded more than 18,700 times to incidents including 252 structure fires and 150 HazMat incidents.
CFS Manager Urban and Technical Operations Tim McNeilly said the new trucks bring the latest and enhanced capability in responding to those incidents.
"These purpose-built trucks will reduce the need for brigades to wait for specialist resources when called to HazMat, road crash rescue and other urban incidents," Mr McNeilly said.
"With improved standardised stowage for dedicated HazMat and road crash rescue equipment, the trucks will allow volunteers to quickly access the tools they need when responding to urban incidents."
Minister for Emergency Services Rhiannon Pearce added that "our Government continues to invest in the latest equipment to protect crews who don't think twice in answering the call".
"CFS volunteers are the neighbours who step up when you need it the most and this rollout is another important measure in keeping them and their communities safe," Minister Pearce said.
The new trucks will be rolled out periodically throughout 2026-27 with the first brigades set to receive their trucks in the coming months.
Stirling, Dalkeith, Aldinga, Athelstone, Waikerie, and Roxby Downs brigades will receive pumpers and brigades receiving HazMat URPs include Clare, Penola, Willunga, Oakbank/Balhannah, Kadina, Bordertown, Middleback, Yorketown, and Strathalbyn.
