Fallen South Australian Firefighters honoured at Annual Memorial Service

10/04/2026

Four new plaques will be unveiled at the Memorial to Fallen Firefighters at the South Australian Volunteer Fire Fighters Museum in Naracoorte tomorrow, as part of the Museum's annual SA Fire Fighters Memorial Service and Wreath Laying.
Commencing at 11am, the service will commemorate Peter Curtis, who died in the Pinkawillinie fire on the Eyre Peninsula last November, along with Brian Menadue, Troy Kinslow and Neil Adams, who have all been recognised under South Australia's presumptive cancer legislation.
Held annually, the memorial service recognises and honours firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting South Australians.
The unveiling of the new plaques will be conducted by CFS Chief Officer Brett Loughlin AFSM, who will deliver eulogies acknowledging the service, dedication, and sacrifice of each honouree.
"Firefighting is inherently dangerous and our volunteers put their lives on the line every time they don their yellows and head out to an incident," Chief Officer Loughlin said.
"It will be an incredible honour to induct each of these volunteers to the memorial and ensure that their service and sacrifice is remembered now and into the future."
South Australian Volunteer Fire Fighters Museum Chair Alan Hall said the annual service is an opportunity for the community, former colleagues, families, and volunteers to reflect on the bravery and commitment of the state's firefighting community.
"The museum is committed to preserving the legacy, stories, and sacrifices of South Australia's firefighters. This year's ceremony is particularly significant as we acknowledge four individuals who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their communities," Mr Hall said.
The Memorial to Fallen Firefighters opened in 2016 and was the first permanent structure installed at the Naracoorte-based museum.
It features a stone wall and a central plaque dedicated "In memory of those members of the Country Fire Service who gave their lives in the call of duty for South Australia".
Media, community members, CFS volunteers, and families of the fallen are invited to attend the memorial and pay tribute.
A livestream is available for those unable to attend the service: https://youtube.com/live/8S7HOy_7soc
