Volunteer Aerial Firefighting Support

Aerial firefighting operations could not occur without the assistance of trained CFS and SES airbase support personnel.  

CFS operates a team of more than 150 volunteer support personnel located across South Australia, who provide skills and expertise including:

• The set up and management of CFS aerial firefighting airbases and associated infrastructure
• The specialist loading of single engine air tanker aircraft with suppressants and/or retardants
• The provision of logistical support to helitack aircraft such as the Erickson Air-crane
• Welfare support to pilots and other aerial firefighting personnel.
